CARICOM and FIFA signs MOU aiming at strengthening collaboration

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)was signed between FIFA and Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Monday to strengthen their collaboration with the intention of increasing sports integrity and social engagement while promoting the advancement of football in the region.CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque FIFA President Gianni Infantino signed the landmark agreement in a virtual ceremony which was attended by chiefs of CARICOM government ministers, chiefs of regional football associations and Concacaf President Victor Montagliani.[caption id="attachment_35078" align="aligncenter" width="100%"]Football imprinted with the date of MOU between FIFA and CARICOM Football imprinted with the date of MOU between FIFA and CARICOM[/caption]FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that they are happy to join into this arrangement with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). He said the MOU would work as a catalyst for the social development of sport in the region.

He noted that he is happy to see the countries acknowledge the opportunities football can bring in terms of social benefits for communities.

"We are watching ahead to going hand in hand with them around this common goal," stated FIFA President Gianni Infantino."

CARICOM Secretary-General Irwin LaRocque also welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). "The cultural, health and economic interests of sport are well recognized and sponsored in our region. The cooperation with organizations such as FIFA would assist in enhancing our goals of strengthening our youth, in particular, to pursue healthy lifestyles while enjoying the benefits of a sport like a football," said CARICOM Secretary-General Irwin LaRocque.
