Castries,Saint Lucia: In a statement, Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has request the opposition to join his government in dealing with the current deadly coronavirus pandemic.

“I continue to strengthen the opposition,” the PM stated.

“We have given them many platforms Andre, whether by NEMAC, the Economic Council, to come and participate the government with the singular purpose of solving this issue,” Chastanet explained.

According to the PM, COVID-19 doesn’t know political parties, understand the difference between rich and poor or black and white.

“This is one of the more significant challenges that we have had as a country, and I think it benefits all of us to join forces because even if I was in opposition, why would I want to see the country destroyed that if I come in it would make it much more difficult?” He observed.

“When you send someone who is not even a parliamentarian to a NEMAC meeting – that’s not showing good leadership. When there’s an opportunity in the house to provide clear information, and you deliberately try to provide deceitful information, that is wrong, and when you have an opportunity to participate in an Economic Council recovery meeting, and you don’t show up, that’s equally wrong,” the PM asserted.

“If you want to question our policies, there’s an election coming up, and you can put your policies on the table to see where Saint Lucians want to go,” Chastanet declared.

He said he is very committed to seeing the development of this country.

“ I am very pleased of what we have successfully done in dealing with COVID – it doesn’t mean that every single person has come through this unscathed,” Chastanet observed.
