St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party launches manifesto

St Kitts and Nevis Party launched its 2020 general election manifesto on Friday evening. The manifesto is dispersed into sections where important and most requisite things are prioritised in the section titled 'code red'.  St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party leader Dr Denzil Douglas stated that the policies under 'Code Red' would be initiated within twelve to eighteen months of assuming the office of the government. The list includes setting up a hospital board, construction of a new hospital, digital education, developmental plans as well as counselling sessions for youngsters to name a few.  Dr Duglas added that the government, under the administration of the Labour Party, would facilitate frontline workers by fair compensation and other amenities. He stated that Labour would also work tirelessly to make St Kitts and Nevis out of the economic and health crisis caused by the pandemic. Next-Gen SKNLP candidate Marcella Liburd stated that Labour would implement the integrity of public life and freedom of information act within twelve months.  Ms Liburd added that freedom of information is extremely important is a significant part of their good governance agenda as this act makes the government accountable towards its actions and also creates transparency. Dr Douglas stated that the government, under their administration, would lend maximum support to frontline workers and essential workers like nurses, police officials, and others will get a housing allowance. Primary Promises
  1. Each adult would be allowed to get one duty-free vehicle
  2. Three VAT days every year including reduction of VAT from 17% TO 13% 
  3.  SMALL BUSINESSES to be stimulated by using start from ZERO tax plan
  4. Small businesses to be exempt from taxes
  5. Farmers to get duty free concessions on tools
  6. Essential workers (police, nurses, defence forces, firemen and sanitation workers) to get housing allowances
  7. Development bank loan interest rates to be reduced from 9 percent to 5 percent
  8. Students attending CDBC to pay no fee
After staying in power for consecutive twenty-years till 2015, the Labour Party seems all geared up to get this term after the loss from the newly created Team Unity alliance of three political parties, Furthermore, giving a judgement on a petition filed by Labour party, the high court has ordered ZIZ Broadcast to provide ten minutes of free radio time per day for each nominated candidate from 30 May to 04 June between 9 am to 12 pm. The judgement comes days after opposition Labour party protested the ruling Team Unity government for not enabling them to address their supporters on the national broadcaster. St Kitts and Nevis is observing general elections on June 05, and after the recent judgement by the High Court, Labour party would be allowed to broadcast their shows on the national broadcaster ZIZ radio.
