Chief Surgeon and Medical Chief of Staff JNF Hospital Dr Cameron Wilkinson stated that a significant proportion of the persons who are being infected with COVID-19 are unvaccinated, with just a few having recently received their first shot.
He said there had been no incidents of infection in a fully vaccinated adult. Dr Wilkinson stated that authorities promised to do a detailed analysis and provide the public with that information in due course.Dr Cameron Wilkinson stated that a significant proportion of those who were infected are persons who were misled and divided by socioeconomics and politics.
"They were misled into believing that they could wait for a better vaccine.
They were misled into believing that if they took vitamins and became as strong as an ox, they will be protected from this deadly virus." stated Dr Wilkinson.
He stated that people were misled, believing that they had the freedom of choice but not told that one choice gave them a fighting chance at life while the other would lead to illness, hospitalization and death.Chief Surgeon stated that people were tricked into believing that it was a personal choice and not that their decision could have far-reaching consequences for others, including in their homes, places of business and places of worship.
"I have said before and will repeat again: Anyone who tells you not to go forward and take the vaccine if you are eligible cannot have the interest of you, your family or your country at heart." stated Chief Surgeon and Medical Chief of Staff JNF Hospital Dr Cameron Wilkinson.
He advised the people to get vaccinated and gave a message to those who are not yet protected through vaccination.
"If your neighbour’s house is ablaze while they unknowingly slept inside with their family, to prevent them from being consumed, you will shout, “Fire! Fire! Get out now!” Your unvaccinated neighbours, co-workers, friends and family are in danger of being consumed by this virus. The message to them should be crystal clear “Vaccinate! Vaccinate! Go out and get vaccinated!” explained Dr Wilkinson. As of Thursday, June 16th 2021, St Kitts and Nevis vaccinated 66.9 percent of adults with the first shot and 32.4 percent with both shots fully vaccinated.
Dr Wilkinson also gave condolences to the family of the person who lost life to COVID-19 in St Kitts and Nevis."The vaccine significantly decreases your risk of getting infected; it helps prevent you from getting severe disease resulting in hospitalization, and more importantly, it prevents you from dying from Covid 19." stated stated Dr Wilkinson.
