Long queues as St Kitts and Nevis go into general elections 

40360 voters to cast a ballot in St Kitts and Nevis general elections.

St Kitts and Nevis is observing general elections today, a large number of people are stepping out to cast their ballot to choose their parliamentary representatives. The polls are being held in eleven constituencies of the twin-island nation. Over 40360 people are casting their vote in the country out of which 35860 are in St Kitts and remaining 12176 in Nevis. People are strictly following the health protocols by the electoral office in the election process that started at 7 am and will last till 6 pm. There are 129 polling station created in various constituencies to facilitate voters. In these general elections, twenty-three candidates, including one independent candidate, is testing their political fate in the country. There are over three different polling stations created at the Kim Collins Athletic Stadium in Bird Rock, constituency number one.  List of constituencies and number of polling stations: Constituency Number of people Voting Sites

People are facing long queues at constituency number three where St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party candidate Ms Marcella Liburd and People's Action Movement Candidate Jonel Powell are representing from their respective political fronts.  Election observers from CARICOM were also seen on the ground, and other local, as well as regional election observers, are there to inspect the entire electoral process of these elections that are being held in the unprecedented times of COVID-19 crisis. The results of the elections would be out at the end of the day. This is the first time that all political parties mainly conducted virtual public meetings on social media because of the restrictions imposed as a result of the pandemic. The voters are maintaining social distancing and are also wearing face masks at the polling stations. The special screening is being done at polling stations to ensure the safety of the citizens. Besides this, special security forces are deployed to guarantee peace during the elections.
