Days after reports of rat and cockroach infestation at the Sandy Point Primary School, several students at the Verchilds High School have come down with a skin malady resulting in the cordoning off of the laboratory and the Bureau of Standards called in to carry out tests.
According to Kyss 102.5 FM, an undetermined number of students are battling an "unknown skin affliction" and the Ministry of Education has launched a probe into the possible cause.
"Well placed sources have revealed that students who all frequented a particular laboratory at the learning institution, late last week, showed similar skin outbreak," said the Kyss News report aired Monday evening.
It said the lab has since been cordoned off and the Bureau of Standards was called in to perform certain tests, in an attempt to determine the root of affliction.
Medical doctors have also recommended certain tests to be completed on students.
Ultimately, it is now a "wait and see" state as they await the results of these tests.
It is not known exactly how many students have been affected by the apparent "outbreak."
Kyss FM said sources have indicated that Ministry of Education officials are going to meet with students and parents as investigations into the matter continue.
This recent incident has triggered even more concerns among parents, teachers and students especially in light of recent fumigation activities within a number of schools through St. Kitts.
"Sources, who wish to remain anonymous, have indicated that schools have been having difficulties in coping with various infestations including rats, roaches and bats," the news report said.
