Donald Trump makes surprise Afghanistan visit

President Donald Trump made an unexpected Thanksgiving visit to U.S. troops in Afghanistan on Thursday and said he trusted Taliban agitators would consent to a truce in America's longest war.
Trump's visit was his first to Afghanistan since turning out to be president. It came seven days after a detainee swap among Washington and Kabul that has raised trusts in a recovery of harmony talks.
"The Taliban needs to make an arrangement," Trump said. "Furthermore, we are meeting with them, and we state it must be a truce, and they would not like to do a truce, and now they need to do a truce, I accept. It will likely play out as expected."
The Air Force One presidential plane contacted down at Bagram Airfield after a medium-term departure from Washington with White House national security guide Robert O'Brien, a little gathering of assistants and Secret Service specialists, and a pool of columnists.
Trump met with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and tended to U.S. troops. He was welcomed by U.S. Armed force General Mark Milley, executive of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, upon his landing in the rambling runway.
Trump served turkey to some U.S. troops and plunked down to have Thanksgiving supper with them. He talked and had his image taken with a portion of the U.S. powers sent there.
