Delhi, India: Coming forward in support of farmers, transporters’ apex body AIMTC on Wednesday warned to stop services in northern India from December 8 if the government fails to address matters of the agriculture community.
The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) is the top body of transporters, representing about 10 million truckers and other entities across India.
The farmers’ demonstrations against the three central farm laws opened into the seventh day today. The leaders of protesting farmers have demanded a special sitting of Parliament to abolish the new farm laws and warned to block other streets of the national capital if their requirements are not fulfilled.
“If the government does not fulfil our requirements, we will have to take more actions,” said a farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chadoni while speaking at a press conference in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal declared that the BJP-ruled Centre was annoyed with him for not allowing stadiums to be utilised as interim jails for farmers objecting the farm laws.
In a press announcement, Kejriwal also knocked out at Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh stating that he was articulating “BJP’s language” by attacking him of “passing” three farm laws in Delhi.
Last week, the AAP government had refused consent to the Delhi Police to convert the city’s stadiums into acting jails.
“The Punjab CM attacked me of passing the three black laws. How can he do such unpretentious politics at such a critical moment,” Kejriwal stated.
“Amarinder Singh had numerous opportunities to prevent farm bills but did not do so,” he added.
The second round of discussions between the Indian government and the representatives of objecting farmers is awaited tomorrow.
