Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: All schools across St Kitts and Nevis resumed offline classes on Monday. The Minister of Education, Jonel Powell, released a message showing concerns about the significance of coronavirus related protocols and vaccines.
Schools have been reopened after the government had several discussions with the Ministry of Education for over two weeks to ensure the health and well being of pupils. He also stated that in-person classes enhance the thinking and social capabilities of students and provide a great learning environment.
In a recorded message, Minister stated that the health guidelines are important for the safety of students and staff members of schools. He said any student experiencing flu-like symptoms must stay at home.
Minister Powell also said that prior to visiting their child's OR ward's academic institution, parents or guardians must make an appointment with the principal or class teacher.
"The Ministry of Education will do all possible to ensure that the children of the country can attain education in a safe and healthy environment. All school administrators and instructors must continue to implement the non-pharmaceutical safeguards put in place since the start of the epidemic in 2020," stated the Education Minister.
Sharing more detailed regulations, Minister Jonel Powell stated that all students must remain at the school premises during the lunch hour; they can go to the school cafeteria. He also recommended parents pack a lunch for kids for more safety.
The Education Minister also stated if a child is sick, then the parent or guardian must inform the school authorities.
Furthermore, he applauded all parents, teachers and other school staff for their commendable work in the education sector.
St Kitts and Nevis have closed all schools and educational institutions following the sudden spike in coronavirus cases. The schools are now finally open after months of closure.
