One vaccinated person died of COVID-19 in St Kitts: Akilah Byron

Health Minister Akilah Byron Nisbett said that only one person out of the total nine COVID-19 related deaths in the Federation was vaccinated against COVID-19.

The minister of health, wellness of St Kitts and Nevis revealed on Friday that out of the nine coronavirus related deaths in the federation, one person was also vaccinated against the virus.

Health Minister Akilah Byron Nisbett said that only one person out of the total nine COVID-19 related deaths in the Federation was vaccinated against COVID-19.

She said there are two vaccines now available in the federation that have proven safe and effective. She said vaccines offer the best protection against severe disease leading to hospitalization and death.

"Vaccines save lives, and the evidence is irrefutable. We thank those who have taken the life-saving vaccine and urge all those who are 18 years and older to get vaccinated," said Health Minister Akilah Byron Nisbett.

She also called on all parents and guardians to bring their children over the age of 12 years old to the health centers to be vaccinated. She emphasized that vaccination offers the best protection against the deadly COVID-19 virus.

St Kitts and Nevis is using Pfizer to immunize 12-year-olds and above. Earlier, the government was mainly utilizing the Astrazeneca vaccine, but with the presence of Pfizer, now people could choose between two vaccines.

The country is currently under a night curfew till 22 September 2021. The curfew hours starts from 1 am every night and finishes at 5 am.
