Elections to the Nevis Island Assembly will take place on 18 December, it has been confirmed.
They are legally due by the end of April 2018.
Speaking at an event last night, Premier Vance Amory said: “I want to say to you very quietly that I have been to see the Governor-General.
“Having consulted with the CCM leader and his team, I advised the Governor-General… I gave him a letter addressed very officially to him in respect of the Nevis election.
“In that note and in our dicussion I advised the Governor-General that he uses his good officers and authority to dissolve the Nevis Assembly with effect from today, the 30th day of November.”
Nomination day is one week before, on 11 December.
Amory had already announced his intention to step back from politics at the next election, having handed the leadership to Mark Brantley in October.
Election Day in Nevis will be December 18, 2017!! The will of the people is the will of God. #DemocracyMatters
