Jamaica successfully administers 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine

The government of Jamaica successfully administered 1 million coronavirus vaccines. Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness said the country achieved the target three weeks earlier than expected. PM Holness thanked all Jamaicans for contributing to the country's vaccine drive; thanks to each and every Jamaican who decided to get vaccinated and especially to those who became vaccine ambassadors! You are the heroes on the scene."

He said the government still continue to encourage everyone to get vaccinated so Jamaica can get back to normalcy.

As of 2:30 pm on Sunday, Jamaica administered around 1,000,455 doses of COVID-19 vaccine island-wide. The numbers include 553,341 people who received the first dose, 391,782-second doses and 55,333 people vaccinated with the single-dose Johnson&Johnson vaccine.

Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Christopher Tufton said they had expected the country to reach the massive one million milestones by November 30 2021, but with the people's support, it was achieved way ahead of its time.

He said Jamaica is utilizing three major vaccines for immunization purposes. Pfizer, Johnson&Johnson and Astrazeneca are all approved by the World Health Organization.

Health Minister also thanked all public health officers for their hard work, patience by taking the vaccine through blitz and community outreach. He also expressed gratitude to the private sector for cooperation.

Dr Tufton said, "there is still a long way ahead, but I hope this milestone will encourage others to take the vaccine".

The vaccination drive in Jamaica still continues; all citizens can visit the government website vaccination.moh.gov.jm to find their nearest vaccination site.
