The dead bodies of three Jamaicans were recovered by officials from an apartment in Queens, New York. The victims were found with multiple stab wounds on their bodies.
Relatives identified them as 55-year-old Karleen Barnett, her 35-year-old son Dervon Brightly, and a family friend, 22-year-old Varshanna "Brittany" Malcolm, who was reportedly in town to visit the family.
According to police sources, all three bodies were discovered inside the single-family home with multiple stab wounds. According to reports, the 22-year-old Malcolm was found by police with her mouth duct taped and her hands shackled.Police believe that the three were killed at least three days before the bodies were recovered. As per officials, another of Barnett's sons, who also resides at home but was absent when the bodies were found, did so.
After being detained and interrogated by police, it was found that the son "was not involved in the killing," according to police sources.
The neighbours told police that they heard noises from home, with the family members shouting. The neighbours' named Zaman Asm, Ravi Persaud, and Asaiah Adams, three neighbours, all voiced horror over the deaths of the trio.
Police have not yet identified a motive or suspect in connection with the killings. Since the beginning of the year, six Jamaicans have been killed in the New York Metropolitan region.
