Grenada ‘willing and ready’ to assist as Harvey batters southern USA
Embassies in America are communicating with Grenadians, says government

The government of Grenada has said that it is willing to assist with in Tropical Storm Harvey recovery efforts after Texas experienced the full force of the weather.
The storm has killed at least 20 people and forced tens of thousands to leave their deluged homes in Houston and other parts of the state.
In a statement, Grenada’s government expressed “deepest concern and empathy” the the US government and citizens.
“There are many Grenadians and friends of Grenada living in Houston and other areas who have experienced Harvey’s wrath,” it said.
“And we assure that the thoughts and prayers of your brothers and sisters in Grenada and our diaspora communities are with you.”
Worldwide responsibility
WIC News understands that so far there have been no deaths or injuries reported to Grenadians living in the affected areas. The country’s embassy in Washington DC, as well as consulate offices in Miami and New York City, have been in contact with those from Grenada living in the region.“We are in the hurricane season, and disasters such as Hurricane Harvey remind us not only of our own vulnerabilities as small island developing states, but also of the global impact that any one disaster can have,” the statement continued.
“Such catastrophic occurrences also reinforce the need for continued preparation and world cooperation to guard against natural disasters and the effects of climate change.”
