Roseau, Dominica: A farmer from Dominica has been awarded the CARICOM Farmer of the Year. Deles Warrington of Calibishie was named as the awardee on Friday and received the honour during a closing ceremony of Caribbean Week of Agriculture, 2021.

The award ceremony at the 16th Caribbean Week of Agriculture was held virtually due to coronavirus related restrictions.

Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit congratulated him for the award and commended his contribution to agriculture.

Prime Minister said Deles Warrington has been a true example of industry, determination and innovation in agriculture for many years. He noted that Warrington's success underscores the critical role of agriculture in strengthening food systems, feeding families and communities, enhancing livelihoods and creating employment.

"We thank Mr Warrington for his outstanding contribution to the development of Dominica's agriculture sector and wish him continued success." noted the Prime Minister.

Deles Warrington is a well-known commercial banana farmer who traditionally grows the crop and exports it to many countries within and beyond the region. His agriculture-related success is a model for many others who wish to adopt it as their career.
