Dominica : New administrative building Portsmouth to house major govt offices

Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit toured Portsmouth, where a new government administrative building will be constructed.

Portsmouth, Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit toured Portsmouth, where a new government administrative building will be constructed. During the visit, PM stated that the construction works would start in the first half of 2022. He stated that the new administrative building would decentralize access to essential government services in the north once completed. Prime Minister Skerrit stated that a sub-treasury, post office, adult education, community development, sports, education, health, and all other government offices would be housed in the new building. "We will also make arrangements for the town council, the Mayor's Office, the council's boardroom, meeting rooms, public space the Member of Parliament will have accommodation and office space there as well," said the Prime Minister. Besides this, the Prime Minister himself will have an office there which he will visit to assist the citizens of Portsmouth and the rest of Dominica's north," PM Skerrit added. Prime Minister also mentioned that a town hall would be incorporated, with a seating capability of at least 500 persons. "We will use it as a town hall on the ground floor, with a huge space that can comfortably seat no fewer than 500 people, as well as kitchen facilities, baths, washrooms, and other connected services". Furthermore, he stated that the government is also planning to use a bypass so that all vehicles coming from the north, Vieille Case, Penville, Calibishie, can bypass Borough Square. Besides this, Prime Minister stated that significant development projects are underway across Dominica. He said the realignment of a section of road in Thibaud has also started, and infrastructural developments in Paix Bouche are also expected in 2022. He stated that in Thibaud, rehabilitation works are underway on a farm access road. PM said around 20 farmers are utilizing the area and are likely to receive benefits.
