"We have asked the Opposition Leader and his Party to call for calm and restraint but all to no avail" says Roosevelt Skerrit

Dominica Labour Party leader Dr Roosevelt Skerrit addressed the nation through Kairi FM where he discussed the issues mainly concerning the ordinary people of Dominica. Dr Skerrit condemned the recent unrest caused by the opposition United Workers Party in some parts of the country.

Prime Minister said that due to the violent acts by the United Workers Party, all cruise ship visits to Dominica have been withdrawn. "I hope the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Lennox Linton, Ex-Prime Minister Edison James and their international associates and advisors can sleep comfortably tonight, knowing that they have now left numbers of families in Dominica penniless for the next several days and perhaps weeks. "

The leader said that they have contacted the opposition for peace and calm but they didn't pay any attention."We have appealed to their leaders to change course. We have appealed to the Church and the private sector to lend a voice of wisdom and guidance in this matter. We have asked the Opposition Leader and his Party to call for calm and restraint and to ask their supporters to stop their injurious behaviour. But all to no avail." added Dr Skerrit.

Dr Skerrit referred to these incidents as a 'Sad Story' interrupting the rebuilding efforts of the nation. He said the lawlessness activities by the opposition would jeopardize the social, economic and mental well-being of all residing on the nature isle.

Prime Minister assured the inhabitants that despite the violent activities of the UWP, the nation would remain a safe island, and there have been no injuries to persons or deaths. He stated the country have just received extra human resources from the Regional Security System to assure all the people and guests are safe and free to move around.

Dr Skerrit said that the safety of the nationals and visitors is his utmost priority and this is the reason the government has sought the help of sister nations in the Regional Security System to send support for Police Force, just in case the instigators and perpetrators entertain the idea of continuing their nonsense into Thursday and Friday.

The opposers of the government are blocking roads and burning tyres which are already taking a toll on many asthmatics, elderly and other persons who have adverse reactions to such smoke.

The leader urged the Dominicans living in abroad to get involved in this discussion and to call family and friends in Dominica and admonish them against continuing this silly behaviour or sanctioning the actions of those behind it.

"To those of you who wish to come home and participate in these elections, you are most welcomed to do so. You have nothing to fear! Voting in Dominica is free and fair." added Dr Skerrit.
