The National Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago have started their first all-female basketball league.
The "Trinidad & Tobago Female Basketball League" is created to maintain equal possibilities for female players, officials and coaches in women’s basketball. The new action supports FIBA's approach for the development of women in basketball.
TTFBL President Claire Mitchell stated that the main goal is to gather a competition arrangement for women.
President noted that the TTFBL wish to create women officials, coaches, referees, women in a leadership position and also clear the bridge of low price structure that is being offered to female athletes in comparison with male candidates.The League will concentrate on implementing the tools required to improve and sustain competitiveness and excitement in women's basketball by producing optimal circumstances and methods to support women/girls participation in basketball.
The league also intends to improve the cooperation of players, coaches, officials, administrators and enhance the popularity, recognition and respect for women's basketball.
"I am 100 percent in support of the Trinidad and Tobago National Basketball Federation in the overall improvement of female basketball in the region," declared FIBA Americas President Carol Callan.
The Trinidad and Tobago Female Basketball League was formally announced on December 11th, via the league’s Facebook page. The event highlighted addresses from FIBA President Hamane Niang, TTFBL President Claire Mitchell and TTFBL Coordinator Allison Bastien amongst others.
