Basseterre: Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to St. Kitts and Nevis, participated in the monthly health walk hosted by Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris on Saturday, February 26, 2022, accompanied by personnel from the Taiwanese Embassy.
Ambassador Lin congratulated Prime Minister Harris on the continuation of this important project, which aims to encourage people, particularly those in Constituency Seven, to engage in more physical activities, at the completion of the walk, which finished at Ottley's Hardcourt.
His Excellency Lin also took the opportunity to discuss a number of programmes on which the Taiwanese Embassy is partnering with the Ministry of Health to improve the general health and wellness of St. Kitts and Nevis' inhabitants and residents.
He said that they're working with the Ministry of Health on the Chronic Disease Prevention Project, which focuses on nutrition by recommending the best solutions to local individuals with diabetes, hypertension, and renal disease. The initiative is primarily concerned with the patient's diet, specifically the food they consume and its nutritional content. Debbie Ou, a Taiwanese volunteer, has spent the last year here in St. Kitts and Nevis aiding with the establishment of healthy diet plans based on meals prepared with fresh local food. We also collaborate with the Ministry of Health, as well as a number of enterprises and community organisations, to conduct a number of health screenings across the Federation in order to better inform people about their health status," Ambassador Lin stated.
Prime Minister Harris sees the health walks as a realistic way to encourage citizens and inhabitants of the Federation to live a healthy lifestyle. Hundreds of people from all around St. Kitts and Nevis attended Saturday's programme, which included a walk from Belle Vue to Ottleys hamlet, where Prime Minister Harris had one-on-one meetings with many people.
Prime Minister Timothy Harris, the Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Seven (Belle Vue to Ottley's), started the monthly health walk in April 2007.
