St Kitts-Nevis: Wingrove George arrest 'vindictive' – opposition

The arrest of former elections supervisor Wingrove George has been branded as political by the chairman of St Kitts and Nevis' opposition. According to SKNNews.com, Marcella Liburd – who is also MP for Central Basseterre – has several questions about the charges, which relate to George's conduct at the last election.

The charge is that the official "failed to carry out your duty to ensure that the announcements of the election results for constituency number four and constituency number eight were done in a timely manner."

But this is not something Liburd has ever seen in the past.

“I have never in my lifetime heard anyone being charged with anything to do with that. The alleged charges that I saw, spoke to the fact that he didn’t make the announcement for constituencies four and eight, in a timely manner,” she said during a radio interview.

She also questioned whether these charges raise legitimacy issues with the MPs represented the constituency four and eight.

“If what they are saying is true, are they saying that number four and eight should really not be in the parliament?" she asked.

The arrest is "strictly vindictive politics", the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party chairman added.
