Porn sharing leads to charge for St Lucia customs official

A customs officer has been charged with libel relating to the online distribution of a pornographic video online.

Mickey Henry was granted $5,000 bail, or suitable surety, when he appeared in the First District Court in Castries on 14 November.

He is accused of defaming a female police officer through the video, which was posted online with an image purporting to be that of the officer.

The cop took to Facebook last week to deny the accusations.

Under St Lucia’s criminal code, a person commits the offence of libel who, by print, writing, painting, effigy, or by any means otherwise than solely by gestures, spoken words, or other sounds, unlawfully publishes any defamatory matter concerning another person, whether living or dead, either negligently or with intent to defame that other person.

The penalty for a conviction for intentional libel is a maximum five-year prison sentence.

A negligent libel conviction carries a two-year prison sentence.
