Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit in his exclusive weekly show “Anou Palay” discussed the details about the national budget presented in the parliament on July 28th, 2020.
Divulging details about significant projects, PM mentioned the International Airport, Roseau Enhancement, rehabilitation of Hillsborough bridges.
Prime Minister stated that several measures are designed in the new budget to transform the country to its 'Dynamic Dominica' goal; he added that the budget is also composed to empower people with more opportunities.
Prime Minister added that in the 2020-2021 budget, tourism had been allocated a more massive amount compared to the previous budget. He added that the budget of marketing has been increased to 13 million dollars to ensure that the name of the country is publicized.
Furthermore, he stated that the government is providing a licence to airlines to land in Dominica and the primary interest is to ensure that there are more flights to Dominica.
Besides this, referring to coronavirus conditions in the United States of America, the Prime Minister stated that "The entire world is grappling with an unprecedented challenge; different government's are trying different challenges."
Furthermore, the Prime Minister stated that the government is eager to bring back all the Dominicans stuck in different countries of the world, whereas the health ministry is working towards increasing the duration of PCR testing prior to entry in Dominica, which currently is 72-hours. However, it is expected to get longer to lower the difficulties.
Speaking on the issue of the international airport, the Prime Minister stated that the government understands the requirement of the airport and is working with the Chinese government to fulfil it as soon as possible. He added that the airport has been getting delayed due to continuous natural catastrophes hitting the country. However, he added that he has faith in God that this time the international airport would be constructed.
