Barbados records 45 positive cases of Covid-19

Thursday, 2nd April 2020

Barbados has recorded 45 positive COVID-19 cases.

In light of this new tally, the government has taken the selection to boost its restrictive measures. However, the island's borders will remain open.

To date, a complete of 382 laboratory tests have been conducted.

Acting Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw stated within the last days, recorded "a whopping 11 instances".

Delivering the address to the country from Ilaro Court mins ago (April 1), she stated, "We fear that it won’t cease there."

She additionally warned that primarily based on the cutting-edge trajectory: "if we do not change direction as a kingdom", the variety of cases will "upward push at an accelerated rate over the following few weeks".

But, beyond the projected number, Bradshaw stated the most crucial factor of the problem while profiling the 45 COVID-tremendous patients, is that some of the more significant recently diagnosed people "are gravely ill".

She introduced that this growing fashion is of "a chief worry" as it now "places us in an extraordinary territory with the clean and present threat of considerable community transmission, which includes we've seen in many other parts of the world."

To date, Barbados has not recorded any COVID-19 fatalities however she stated five Bajans have died in New York City on my own.

"Among the close to 46,000-plus which have died international from complications related to this disease, most of us recognise someone who knows a person who has been taken through this mighty pandemic.

"In New York City on my own where heaps of Barbadians reside, we've got already lost at least 5 of our residents to this disease."

Extending sincere condolences to the family and friends who are at this time grieving, she told the country: "This disease isn't stopping.

"Small nations, along with Barbados, have now to fend for themselves. There is not any sister country to show too because all around us is on lockdown - from Trinidad and Tobago in the South to St Vincent and the Grenadines and St Lucia next door, up to Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda further North, they are all tonight on lockdown or headed swiftly to that factor."

"We, therefore, want to formulate a plan of survival for Barbados."

Barbados is, therefore, taking the "drastic action" to reduce, control and comprise the spread of COVID-19 locally.

After a session with essential companions and stakeholders which include individuals of the Opposition, the Democratic Labour Party and the social partnership, Barbados is imposing extra measures underneath the Emergency Management Act, inclusive of "a mandatory 14-day quarantine in a central authority facility will be positioned on all persons coming into Barbados no matter the port of foundation or port of entry."

"With impact from the third of April 2020 till the fourteenth day of April 2020, every non-crucial provider shall remain closed" besides those exempted with precise hours of operation.
