Jamaica: 88 new COVID-19 cases and one death recorded

The health department of Jamaica stated that the country has recorded one additional COVID-19 related death, and 88 more people have also tested positive for the contagious virus in the Caribbean island

The health department of Jamaica stated that the country has recorded one additional COVID-19 related death, and 88 more people have also tested positive for the contagious virus in the Caribbean island.

This brings the country's death toll to 303 and the total amount of confirmed cases to 12,915.

According to the Ministry of Health and Wellness of Jamaica, the latest death is that of a 74-year-old lady from Trelawny.

Of the 88 newly recorded cases, there were 48 males and 40 females with ages ranging from 33 days to 95 years.

Kingston and St Andrew and St Catherine each recorded 19 cases, while Clarendon wrote 11 and Trelawny and St Ann recorded six cases each. Manchester, Westmoreland, St James recorded five cases each, St Thomas and St Elizabeth both registered four cases, and Portland recorded three.

The country also recorded 149 patient improvements bringing the total number of recoveries to 10,532.

Jamaica has recorded 12,915 coronavirus cases, and 303 people have died of the contagious virus in this Caribbean country.

The first coronavirus cases in Jamaica was discovered in February 2020.

The number of coronavirus cases continues to surge worldwide while the United States of America remains to be on top of the list 20 million cases and over 3,46,000 deaths.

The UK, on the other hand, is struggling to control the fast-spreading new coronavirus variant which is suspected to be 70 percent more infectious than the current one.

For four consecutive days, the UK has recorded over 50,000 cases each day.

The vaccination strategy of the UK has also been changed, considering the rapid rise in the coronavirus cases.

The current immunisation focuses on targetting the elderly, health care workers. After the vaccination started on December 08, over 130,000 were immunised on the first week.

The UK continue to use Pfizer/BioNtech vaccination.
