Jamaica: A 35-year-old man from St Mary is reportedly accused of threatening a minor to have sex with him. According to the police reports, the suspect blackmailed the teenager by using explicit photos of her and asked her to sleep with him against her will.
The police officials also added that the girl was in a relationship with the accused earlier but had allegedly broken it off.
On Sunday, the police officials charged the thirty-five-year-old Bryan Walsh, a security guard of Saltrum district in Gayle, with grievous sexual assault, rape, sexual grooming of a child and possession of child pornography.
The police also added that the man will soon appear in court, during which his charges will be finalised.
Meanwhile, the identity of the girl has not been disclosed due to privacy concerns.
While telling the story of their relationship, Port Maria police officials said that Walsh and the teen met on Facebook back in April 2021 and got into a relationship. The victim sent her explicit photos to Walsh, which he later used to threaten her in order to fulfil her sexual demands.
According to the reports, the accused used to say that he would leak the images if her demands were not met.
The child was afraid and went to Walsh's house in November 2021, where he reportedly sexually assaulted her, following which a report was made to the police by the teen's mother.
Walsh was later arrested by the police officials and subsequently charged after he was pointed out during an identification parade by the teenager.
The citizens and residents of Jamaica have condemned the incident and urged the authorities to give strict punishment to the accused.
A user named Mclean said, "Serve him right, so he knows that he should not look at teen girls." Another user praised the officers for their immediate response and said, "Great job, officer, but I always say be careful of the photos on your phone, their hackers out there who will use them for their own gains."
