Hospitals have adequate oxygen supply, says Terrance Dyal Singh

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: Trinidad and Tobago is struck down with the most recent wave of coronavirus pandemic. Hundreds of people are testing positive for COVID-19 on a daily basis.As the hospitals are on the verge of collapse, people are worried about adequate oxygen supplies across medical health centres.Minister of Health alleviated the concerns about the supply of oxygen in the public health sector, and the Minister of Health reassured the population that the public health system was more than adequately stocked with oxygen supplies.The Minister also indicated that an extra 50% supply of oxygen, over and above the current high demand levels, has been held in reserve by the ministry's main external supplier.Minister Terrance Dyal SIngh stated that for the first time in the history of the public health sector in Trinidad and Tobago that two major hospitals have the capacity to generate, bottle and distribute oxygen to other facilities within the public sector.Furthermore, he stated that the facilities are the Arima General Hospital and the Point Fortin General Hospital are equipped with mandatory items, and the oxygen supply is more than adequate to meet our immediate and future needs.On Wednesday, Trinidad and Tobago recorded 399 coronavirus patients bringing the total number of active cases to 3029.
