Guyana: In a heartbreaking incident, an accident along the Britannia, West Coast Berbice, Guyana claimed the life of one and injured another. The fatal incident took place on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the information, 18-month-old Karson Mayers of Lot 32 Belmont, East Coast Demerara, died in a tragic accident. It was reported that around 1:45 pm, 30-year-old Kishawn Mayers was driving his vehicle with his wife and son.
The family was proceeding towards west along the southern side of the said road at a fast pace. The father took a right turn and lost control of the vehicle following which the three ended up on the northern side of the road in the path of motor lorry which was proceeding east along the north side of the road.
Because of the turn at a fast pace, the right side of the car collided with the right side of the trailer, which resulted in the two occupants, Karson and Monique Richmond, who were sitting in the right rear seat, sustaining injuries.
It was said that the passersby took them to the Fort Wellington Hospital, where they were seen and examined by a doctor. The medical officials pronounced Karson Mayers dead on arrival, while his mother, Monique Richmond, was admitted for observation.
The police officers in Regional Division 5 have launched an investigation into this fatal accident. Following the accident, Breathalyzer tests were also conducted on both drivers, but they were found to be sober, with the authorities serving notices of intended prosecution on both of them.
The sudden death of the infant has sent a shockwave across the community, with people taking to Facebook to express their condolences.
“My deepest condolences to entire family members. Rest in peace, Little Angel,” wrote a user named Rohita, while another user said, “Driving fast with your infant in the car…well, he’ll have to live with that. I am tired of hearing about carelessness and recklessness resulting in the loss of lives on the road. R.I.P little one.”
