Former Prime Minister of Dominica, Late Pierre Charles
Dominica: January 6, 2021, marked 17 years of the Honorable Pierre Charles's passing, the sixth Prime Minister of Dominica. Pierre Charles was Prime Minister of Dominica from 2000 to 2004 and Member of Parliament for the Grand Bay Constituency from March 1985 to January 6, 2004.

Edward Registe, Member of Parliament for the Grand Bay Constitution, remembers the late Pierre Charles as a community-oriented man.

He said, "For the years spent in Grand Bay, I think he was one of the politicians who were able to unite the constituency very well, and many will remember him for a long time, for whom he Was beyond just being a politician. He was a teacher, he was a farmer, he was a social worker, and he was a businessman in the community. Pierre Charles embodied what Grand Bay always wanted to be. For many a father, a counselor; he was many things to many people and is therefore well remembered for his contributions, not only as a politician but as many other things, Which meant to many different people.”

Registe said that the former Prime Minister will always be remembered for his contribution to that constituency.

"He is greatly missed, and there are many things that can be added to his legacy. We named him Pierre Charles Secondary School after he was a teacher, Pierre Charles Boulevard, because of his contribution to social development. I really wish that the Pierre Charles Foundation could continue, but this is something that can be revived. To help generations remember who he was; They will hear his name many times, especially when they go to school, they will see pictures of him, but they will not remember his contribution until we die for it. And so it is important for us to add to the memories of those who were Pierre Charles and his contributions, ”the Grand Bay MP explained.

The Member of Parliament said that Pierre Charles played the role of Prime Minister during Dominica's most difficult times but stood for the test to ensure a better life for all citizens of Dominica.

“He became the Prime Minister at a challenging time in the history of our country when we faced austerity measures and it was not very easy. I remember many discussions with him during that time and learned a lot from him about what courage means in politics. He has to take several measures that he was not very comfortable with, but they were necessary. And even today, we remember how austerity affected our country and especially the lives of many public officials. Being a public official himself, he understood very clearly what the impact was. You people had to be unable to fulfill their commitment, but he understood that it was not his or her political movement; These were necessary corrective measures which had to be taken forward, ”the Registe further said.
