After receiving the scholarship from the university in USA, a professional athlete Danelson Mahautiere took it over to his social media to thank Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit for his efforts and investment in sports.

“Thanks to the Government of Dominica and the honourable prime Minister Mr Roosevelt Skerrit for their investment in sports, by providing me with the opportunity for me to attend school and train in Jamaica over the past 2 years,” he said.

Monetary support to sportsmen is an essential part to uplift the country to perform better in international or national competitions. Thus, the government of Dominica is dedicated in providing complete facilities to the youth who prove themselves worthy. Similarly, the young athlete received a high level of training with enhanced technique to prepare for an international stage and soon he will go to study in the USA. He is now focusing on Olympic Games in Tokyo, 2020.

He stated “I was able to receive a high level of training which greatly improved my technique but also challenged me competitively. Consequently, I went on to run four national records and obtained several personal bests. I won gold and silver in the Whitsuntide games in Grenada and placed 6th at the 2019 Pan American Juniors Games in Costa Rica and was a double finalist at the 2019 Carifta Games at the Cayman Islands.”

Following his marvellous dedication towards sport, which raised the head of the whole country, he was offered with a scholarship to study in the United States of America.
