Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Guyana seized $18 million worth of Ganja during a counter-narcotics operation along Unity foreshore area.

Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Guyana seized $18 million worth of Ganja during a counter-narcotics operation along Unity foreshore area, ECD, between June 8 & 9th.
During this operation, the officers found a 17 ft wooden boat with a large fertilizer bag inside; upon closer examination of the bag, it contained marijuana.
A further search of a coconut grove nearby led to discovering an additional 17 bags of marijuana. The 18 bags were weighed, which amounted to 300 lbs, valued at eighteen (GYD 18,000,000) Million dollars. The boat, along with the engine, was also seized. Police have taken one person in custody who is currently assisting the police in investigating the incident.

However, so far, no one has been legally charged with possession of the massive amount of Ganja; officials are looking for real owners of the drug.

As per reports, the officers had reached out to the man's home and searched the place and found two zip lock bags containing seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis.
In June 2020, the police had destroyed 18million worth of Ganja near the Berbice River. During the operation a year ago, more than 5000 cannabis plants ranging between three and four feet in height were burned.
