Caribbean Examinations Council announces strategy for May/June exams

The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) has proposed a revised examinations strategy for the administration of May/June 2020 examinations in mild of the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had at the schooling sector.
Over the past two weeks, the CXC has been monitoring developments throughout the CARICOM vicinity and working carefully with representatives from the Ministries of Education and tertiary institutions to reach a regional consensus on how the exams have to be administered.
Following the one's meetings, it was decided that this year’s examinations could be administered through the e-Testing modality (online and offline) on the way to lessen the administration of the examination processing time, therefore shortening the turn-around time for marking and freeing of exam results.
The Council has decided on a modified examination procedure as follows:
1. Administration of at the least one not unusual paper (Multiple Choice Assessments);
2. School-Based Assessments (SBAs) and Paper 032s (Alternative to SBA) for non-public candidates; and
3. Award final grades based totally on the moderated SBAs and Multiple Choice Papers.
However, there are exceptions in Modern Languages (Spanish, French and Portuguese), Human and Social Biology and Visual Arts, in which candidates might be required to complete additional components.
The CXC said the revised examinations strategy would also offer an opportunity for the timely presentation of grades to facilitate matriculation to higher education or to access employment. Further, it minimises disruption to the 2020/2021 academic year.
The Council stated while the proposed revised management plan for the May/June 2020 examinations is July 2020, it's going to stay guided by national protocols throughout the place.
