Belize: A shocking incident was reported from Belize where a 34-year-old Evelin Azucena Garcia Zuniga reportedly died after she was stung by a bee.
According to her family, they believe she was allergic to the insect, because she had been stung before and developed difficulty breathing.
But while she survived that incident, this time, she was at least an hour away from her home in Franks Eddy Village, and even further from anyone who could give her medical attention.
Notably, Her husband, Carlos Heron, was with her at the time, since he was working in the area which is known as “Dark Night.”
According to the National Vital Statistics System report, During 2000–2017, a total of 1,109 losses from hornet, wasp, and bee stings occurred, for an annual average of 62 deaths. Death tolls ranged from a low of 43 in 2001 to a high of 89 in 2017.
Some crucial facts about Bees from experts :
Bees – including honey bees, bumble bees and solitary bees – are very important because they pollinate food crops. Pollination is where insects move pollen from one plant to another, fertilising the plants so that they can produce fruit, vegetables, seeds and so on. If all the bees went extinct, it would destroy the delicate balance of the Earth’s ecosystem and affect global food supplies.
In addition, as per a report, there are more than 800 wild bee species within Europe, 7 of which are listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as critically endangered. A further 46 are endangered, 24 are vulnerable, and 101 are near-threatened. While it’s unlikely that all bee species will be cleared out anytime soon, losing these threatened species would still have a big influence on pollination around the world, wiping out plant species, some of which we rely on for our food.
