Barbados: Barbados' ambassador to the Caribbean Community, David Comissiong, said that that country hopes to benefit from the Cuban vaccine Abdala to combat COVID-19, local press reported today.
Barbadians are asking for it and arrangements have been made for months to receive the drug, Comissiong said.
The ambassador assured that the island was one of the first in the Eastern Caribbean to request the delivery of Abdala and explained that it could be used as a booster vaccine early next year.
Abdala, created by scientists from Cuba, was the first vaccine developed and produced in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The drug demonstrated 92.28 percent efficacy with its three-dose schedule during phase III, which exceeds the World Health Organization requirements to be declared a COVID-19 vaccine.
