Barbados: High surf advisory in effect for western coastlines

Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) upgraded the High Surf Advisory for the western coastlines of Barbados as a result of the frontal system till Monday evening. A high surf advisory is issued when wave action poses a threat to life and property within the surf zone.
The marines are forecasted to remain moderate in open water with north swells, ranging between 1.5 to 2.5 meters, which is almost equal to 5 to 8 feet.
Citizens have also been warned that breaking wave action could heighten around high tide.
Hazard update
According to BMS forecasters, a broad area of low pressure in the North Atlantic is causing above-normal waves that are spreading across the ocean area waters of the Eastern Caribbean.
Since Friday, there has been an increase in surf activity on the west coast of the island. This surfing activity is becoming intense, and sea bathers and other marine users are advised to practice caution and take all necessary steps during this situation.
Further, it is recommended that beachgoers use beaches with lifeguard life-guard stations. This activity is supposed to be continued until Monday.
