A 16-year-old received six stitches after being stabbed seven times allegedly by an 18-year-old fellow student at Ottos Comprehensive School in Belize on Thursday morning.

The incident happened in a corridor at about 10:30 and caused a hubbub on the compound. The Emergency Medical Services and police rushed to the compound after the 18-year-old 4th form student was allegedly heard telling the 16-year-old 3rd form student:

"I told him not to interfere with me," after which he reportedly attacked the 16-year old from behind with a pair of scissors.

The victim was stabbed three times in the head and four elsewhere on the body. The attacker was reportedly swinging the scissors wildly during the incident, but he was eventually subdued and held at the security booth, still bristling with rage, until police arrived and detained him.

The victim, with his shirt covered in blood, was assisted on the compound before an ambulance transported him to the hospital, where he was treated and later discharged.

Local news reported that the violent incident was the crescendo of days of bickering between both students in which the principal had earlier intervened and sternly warned both boys to de-escalate the tension and to behave on and off the compound.

Police are now investigating; school officials managed to restore calm to ensure the resumption of classes for the remainder of the day.
