COVID-19 cases in Montserrat increases, NHS team lands to help
Montserrat is witnessing a spike in COVID-19 cases, following which a delegation of NHS Medical Specialists arrived at John A Osborne Airport, and the Ministry of Health and Social Services Senior Management and Nursing staff received them at the airport. The delegation includes three intensive care unit (ICU) nurses, one ICU specialist doctor, and an epidemiologist. They will assist the Ministry of inpatient care as the country is witnessing an increased number of coronavirus cases. "We are tremendously thankful for the UK's continuous help as we continue to face the various problems related to the global COVID-19 pandemic," stated Charles Kirnon, Minister for Health.  "Indeed, our health system has been under tremendous strain, and on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, I enthusiastically welcome the NHS Medical Specialists' experience and important help to our health care system," Kirnon added. "As we face this extremely hard moment with Covid 19, I am glad that the UK Health Security Agency, as part of the close partnership between the UK and Montserrat, is able to provide this help for us. Her Excellency Governor Sarah Tucker said. I'm confident that the UKHSA team will work together with our nurses and doctors to combat this pandemic and that the UK will continue steadfast in its support." While the Ministry continues to seek alternate solutions to the issues caused by the current shortage of local medical personnel, Montserrat will benefit for the next four weeks from the assistance of medical specialists. Residents are urged to protect themselves from the virus by practising good hand hygiene, wearing face coverings in public places, following quarantine and isolation protocols, and getting vaccinated against this potentially deadly virus as we continue to deal with the current spike in COVID-19 cases. Infected people should seek medical help as soon as they notice severe symptoms like shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, or chest pains by calling the Flu Hotline.
