Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry told The New York Times that he is still confused with the motive of the assassination of President Moise, who was murdered by mercenaries at his personal residence on July 7, 2021.
Henry said he believes there are many people involved who might have access to a lot of money. He also said that as per him, the people who had been accused until now do not seem to have the capacity and the web to do it.
Furthermore, the Haitian Prime Minister believes that the assailants planned for months in Florida and Haiti before executing their master plan. Henry, whom President Moise appointed just months before his death, says he is baffled by the occurrence and the motive. He assumed his post as the Prime Minister two weeks after the assassination and replaced the interim PM Claude Joseph.
He also said he could be at risk from the people who assassinated the president, “Could they do it again? I don’t know,”
Besides this, he said now; his motive is to carry out free and fair presidential elections. He is in discussions with political parties and civil leaders to select a new electoral board and plan a new constitution that will be given to voters for approval.
Prime Minister Henry also promised to improve the security structure of Haiti before the country goes into elections. The police and other investigative agencies of Haiti captured over 40 people in connection to the death of President Moise, who was shot 12 times while his wife was severely injured in the mass attack. The police and prosecutor’s office is issuing warrants of new suspects regularly. In July, a former Supreme Court Judge was also accused of carrying out the killing.
The wife of the deceased President, Martina Moise, also indicated her candidature for the position in her first interview with The New York Times earlier this week. She also shared her memories of the terrific night and said that it is outrageous that none of the 60-80 guards was present that night, and nobody got shot beside her.Latest
