Guyana: 12-year-old killed in a road accident after getting hit by Police Corporal's pickup

Another life was lost to a road accident in Guyana on Wednesday. The victim is recognized as a 12-year-old Kayla Barnabas, a female student of West Demerara Secondary School.
Police in Regional Division 3 is investigating a fatal accident which occurred around 15:45 hrs today on the Goed Fortuin Public Road, West Bank Demerara, involving a Force motor pickup GXX 6575 driven by a Police Corporal that hit a female student of West Demerara Secondary School.
Information received is that Force motor pickup GXX 6775 was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road when it was alleged that the schoolgirl ran from east to west across the road in the path of the pickup.
The driver swerved west to avoid a collision but the front of the vehicle collided with the schoolgirl.
She was placed in a motor vehicle in an unconscious state and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
