American citizen feared kidnap in Guyana found alive

An American citizen who was feared kidnapped on March 15 2022, in Guyana was found alive. The Ranks of the Major Crimes Unit (MCU) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) arrested several persons and found 29-year-old Rohan Kirpaul Mangra.

According to investigators, relatives of Kirpaul Mangra made a report to the police on March 17, 2022, stating that he left home two nights prior and had not returned.

On March 20, 2022, relatives provided the police with a photograph of Mangra showing his mouth covered with duct tape, which they say was sent to them via WhatsApp from an unknown person. His relatives had also offered $1 million rewards for his safe return.Immediately, ranks from the Major Crimes Unit, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters were assigned to the investigation, and several of Mangra's associates were arrested and questioned by the ranks.

Consequently, acting on intelligence, investigators went to a hotel on Hadfield Street where they found Mangra alive and well. Mangra, when questioned by investigators, revealed that he was not abducted and he went to the hotel of his own free will. He is currently assisting the police with their investigation.

It is unclear how the duct-tape images of him were shared on Whatsapp, causing a fearful situation for his family. Some believe the man himself duck-taped himself and clicked photos just to seek attention.
