UK: In a spine chilling incident in the UK, a British lawmaker David Amess was stabbed to death while he was attending a public meeting in a church with voters from his constituency. A man holding a sharp knife lunged at him and stabbed the lawmaker multiple times.

69-year-old David Amess of PM Boris Johnson’s Conservative party became under attack by an individual during midday at the Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea, East of London.

He was provided medical assistance immediately but succumbed to multiple wounds caused by a knife, said police. Police have already arrested 25-year-old man minutes later, he attacked the lawmaker and a knife has also been recovered from him which was used to cause the crime.

However, the motive behind this attack has not been clear yet, but detectives and armed police stated that they are not looking for anybody else in connection to this incident; further details are awaited.

His colleagues from all across Parliament expressed their grief and paid tribute to Amess. The lawmaker was renowned for his public presence as he held meetings every first and third Friday of the month to resolve their issues on the ground. Colleagues also added that he was diligent in his duties for his people.

In a tribute to Amess, Flags were lowered in Downing Street.

Amess left his wife and five children behind. He was first elected to the Parliament in 1983 to represent Basildon and later, he was elected for Southend West in 1997. Queen Elizabeth also knighted Amess for his public service in 2015.

While some may see it as an attack on a Lawmaker, but several see it as an attack of democracy, the stabbing at a meeting echoes of a 2010 incident when Stephen Timms – Labour Lawmaker has survived a stabbing attack during his public meeting at his own constituency office. And, shooting incident of Jo Cox – Labour MP just a few days earlier from Brexit referendum.
