St Lucia: Twelve people including a baby tests positive of COVID-19

On Friday, the health ministry of St Lucia confirmed twelve new cases of the coronavirus. The information was shared through a press-conference by government health officials.

As per the health department, recently, 200 samples were taken for testing, and twelve tested positive. All these positive patients are confirmed to be Saint Lucian citizens from five different health districts.

The recent active confirmed cases are 81.

As per the health ministry, these twelve patients belong to the districts of Castries, Gros-Islet, Micoud, Anse La Raye, and Babonneau.

The health ministry asserted that these people were first checked at the local respiratory clinics where they showed the symptoms of the virus, and later, the test results were revealed to be positive.

Doctors had placed these people in quarantine immediately after receiving the positive reports for COVID-19.

The health ministry stated that the contact tracing is undergoing, and one epidemiological link has been established for ten of these cases.

Investigations are in process by the contact tracing team to determine the possible existence of a link for the other two cases. The health ministry claimed that arrangements had been made to isolate these persons.

Besides this, the ministry of health reported a total of six recovery reports for 8 January 2021.

Health officials advised people to be vigilant and follow the guidelines of the authorities. The authorities suggested people avoid large public gatherings and practice hygiene.

Health Ministry declared the significance of wearing a face mask in public places and also visiting a recent respiratory clinic in case of any cold, flu, or breathing difficulties.

People who tend to show any alike flu symptoms are also advised to be more vigilant and stay away from other family members until tested for the virus.

The health authorities continue to trace the contacts who came in touch with the recent active cases.
