Georgetown, Guyana: Prices of daily needs products are increasing rapidly across supermarkets in Guyana after flooding across the island. The recent price of beef left locals speechless after it was costed at GYD 60,087 for 3 kg.  The price is extraordinarily high as an average person below the poverty line barely makes GYD 44,300 per month. It is not only beef that is highly-priced; even the costs of vegetables are insanely up. It is not only the supermarkets selling expensive products, but the prices at local markets have gone up too. Many vegetable crop fields are damaged, and hundreds of livestock died due to the heavy rainfall and flooding, contributing to the high pricing.  [caption id="attachment_36000" align="aligncenter" width="275"]Poor condition of livestock in a village in Guyana due to heavy flooding. While the prices have gone insanely up, the income of the people remains the same, perhaps much lesser than before because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is believed that the job loss caused by the pandemic in Guyana is very high needs proper assessment. More than 34 million people across Latin America are now unemployed because of coronavirus. Statistically, the inflation rate in Guyana went up by 1.25 percent in 2020. The common people are not able to afford their regular lifestyles and are unable to facilitate their food, shelter requirements. The lack of income is resulting in high crime across the country. Genocides, murder for money are becoming more frequent than ever.
