116-year-old French nun beats coronavirus

A 116-year-old French nun is considered Europe's oldest individual to beat the COVID-19 and is looking forward to keeping her 117th birthday on Thursday.

The Gerontology Research Group, which confirms 110 or older people's details, lists Frenchwoman Lucile Randon — Sister André's is the second-oldest known living person globally.

French media announced that the nun tested positive for coronavirus in mid-January in the south French city of Toulon. But just three weeks later, she is deemed recovered.

"I didn't even realize I had it," she told reporters.

Sister André, blind and managed with a wheelchair, did not appear worried when receiving a diagnosis as coronavirus positive.

"She didn't ask me about her well-being, but about her ways," David Tavella, the information manager for the care home where the nun lives.

"For example, she needed to know if meal or bedtime plans would change. She displayed no fear of the disease. On the other hand, she was visibly concerned about the other residents of the care home."

But not all of the home's occupants had the same event of the virus as Sister André. In January, 81 of the 88 elderly individuals at the facility tested positive for the virus, and around 10 of them died, according to French newspaper Var-Matin.

Once doctors had proved the nun was no longer infected, she was provided to attend Mass.
