Roosevelt Skerrit honoured with Order of José Marti

He said Dominica and the Caribbean will always have a sister and supportive nation in Cuba. President reaffirmed his willingness to maintain a high level of political dialogue and thanked Dominica and CARICOM for their worthy and courageous position towards our country. During a meeting in Havana earlier Tuesday, the Cuban President and Dominican Prime Minister agreed on the will to continue expanding cooperation ties in areas of mutual interest for the benefit of their respective peoples. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is the first leader in the Eastern Caribbean to be honoured with this prestigious award. General Secretary of Dominica Labour Party- Cassani Laville, said the party is proud to celebrate the accomplishment of their beloved leader. He said it a major international acknowledgement of the extraordinary attributes and accomplishments of Dr Roosevelt Skerrit. Laville said José Marti is a significant figure who contributed to Cuban independence in the 19th century. The Order of José Marti is Cuba’s highest state recognition given to nationals and Heads of States and Governments who have distinguished records in defence of human rights and have made extraordinary contributions to education, culture, governance and the well-being of all peoples. The award is named for José Marti, a poet and writer lauded as a nationalist, philosopher, activist and humanitarian.
