Dominica to remain under complete lockdown and curfew on weekend

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit on Friday addressed the COVID-19 situation in the country. He said that there are currently 103 active virus cases on the island, while 90% of the patients are unvaccinated.  During the national address, the prime minister stated that the people still awaiting their RT-PCR are taken to government isolation facilities.  He noted that the current virus cluster in Dominica is very contagious, and people must exercise caution. PM said that most people are complying with new restrictions. He emphasized that the country continue to experience more cases. PM said health workers advised the government to have additional measures to handle the rising cases, and the President approved amendments to the "Emergency Powers Orders." The country will remain incomplete curfew for the weekend.  "Gas stations at High Street, Portsmouth, Canefield and Marigot are open until 1:00pm. " The curfew, which started on Friday at 6 pm, will remain in effect till Monday at 5 am.  He said the weekend curfew would be an absolute shutdown where no activity will be allowed. Only nurses, doctors, police, firefighters, people working at health facilities, seaports and airports will be allowed to commute. Travelling in and out of the country and also those seeking medical assistance will be allowed.  "Everywhere to remain closed this weekend," said Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit.  You have already taken five holidays this month; there have been already deductions in your salary. However, if it is essential for you to take a day off, you can take unpaid leave.  COVID-19 testing will continue in the following situations
  • Windsor Park Sports Stadium on Saturday, August 7, and Sunday, August 8 for the people of Roseau Health District from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.
  • Espirit Murphy Health and Wellness Centre in Mahaut on August 7 from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.
  • Morne Prosper Health Centre on August 7 from 1:00 pm
  • Pointe Michel Health Centre on Sunday, August 8, from 9 am to 1 pm.
  •  Campbell Health Centre 9 am to 1 pm.
  • Wotten Waven and Trafalgar August 8 from 9:30 am to 1 pm.
Prime Minister advised people with flu-like symptoms to call the hotline at 448 2151, 448 2153, 448 2156, 611 4325, or 1 800 219.  He also advised people to get vaccinated; PM Skerrit said vaccines are available islandwide at the District Health Centres. He said the country has some Sinopharm vaccines, and the United Kingdom also donated an additional 12,000 Astrazeneca vaccines on Friday.
