Roseau, Dominica: The Housing Revolution in Dominica continues this Christmas as twelve families have officially received keys to their new climate-resilient homes. On Thursday, a key handover ceremony was hosted, and Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit himself handed over the keys to beneficiaries. The distributed homes are completed under the Housing Recovery Project funded by the World Bank. Prime Minister Dr Skerrit congratulated the twelve families; he shared a post on Facebook, stating, "Congratulations to the twelve individuals who received keys to their new homes this morning, under the Dominica Housing Recovery Project," The distribution of these 12 homes ahead of Christmas is just like a festive gift from the government to the people. Housing Recovery Project (HRP) came into operation in February 2019, and it is designed to benefit persons whose homes, up to 500 square feet, were destroyed following the passage of Hurricane Maria in 2017. Besides this, one family in St Joseph also received keys to their climate-resilient home on Wednesday. Parliament Representative Adis King himself handed over the keys to Penrice Belles, who can now live this Christmas comfortably in a new resilient home. As per reports, over three hundred thousand dollars has been spent on constructing this house.  The government of Dominica aims to construct and distribute over 5,000 climate-resilient homes. Thousands of families are already given new homes since the initiative started in 2019.  Dominica is also working towards becoming the world's first climate-resilient nation. Hurricane Maria destroyed around 90% of the infrastructure in Dominica, making hundreds of people homeless or living under tarpaulins. After so much destruction, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit decided to strengthen the infrastructure of the country, and construct resilient homes, buildings, health centres.

All the buildings that are being constructed in Dominica are climate-resilient, capable of handling any category five hurricane or other natural disasters equivalent to it.
