Dominica appreciated at the UN headquarters in New York

Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland, a native of Dominica, highlighted the island as a budding example of development in the age of climate change.

CSG Patricia Scotland lauds Caribbean & Commonwealth for data driven approaches to sustainable development

Climate change is the cause of plenty of problems in the modern world. It is the major reason behind the yearly natural catastrophes destroying millions of lives around the globe.

This year Gretta Thunberg took the UN platform to speak her heart for climate change by referring everyone as ignorant towards the mother earth. Gretta Thunberg’s strong speech has taken all the social media by storm and it has rung a bell in everybody’s head regarding the mass extinction being caused by the change in the climate.

In the year 2017, the Caribbean was hit by devastating Hurricane Maria, which ruined most of the livelihood in the surrounding islands. One of its kind is Dominica, which is known as the ‘Nature Isle’ of the Caribbean. This beautiful island is a victim of climate change, Tropical Storm Erika and Hurricane Maria ruined the island in the year 2015 and the year 2017 respectively.

Hurricane Maria was extremely devastating that around 90% of the country of Commonwealth of Dominica was vanished by leaving behind broken houses, devastated trees and homeless people.

After two years of time, Dominica has come a long way by building itself  back. Government is now giving away free houses to the victims of the hurricane and also the nation is working towards achieving its goal of becoming the ‘First Climate Resilient’ country in the world.

Cayman Compass reported that Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland, a native of Dominica, highlighted the island as a budding example of development in the age of climate change at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.

“Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said he wants to turn Dominica now into the most resilient country in the Caribbean,” Scotland said Tuesday, speaking to the Cayman Compass from the United Nations headquarters in New York City.
