The most awaited first direct flight from Miami, USA, landed at the Douglas Charles Airport Dominica on Wednesday. With over 72 passengers on board, flight Flight 3579, a direct, commercial flight, marked a historic day for the country.  Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, stated that the "direct flight from mainland US is a game-changer for Dominica."  "The convenient movement of people is sure to positively impact growth in tourism activity, business and trade relations. We thank American Airlines for this collaboration and look forward to a long and mutually beneficial partnership," said the Prime Minister As per reports the flight was fully-sold out, showing people's excitement for Dominica.

The aircraft landed around 3:18 pm at Douglas Charles Airport, after a four-hour flight from Miami, USA. Due to high demand, the twice-weekly, year-round service will expand to three times a week from January 10, 2022. The day is indeed historic for Dominica, as the country is transitioning into a tourism-based economy.  The most-awaited International Airport in Dominica is also under construction and expected to fully function by 2025. With the International Airport, Dominica will have direct connectivity to the United States of America, Europe and many other parts of the world.  The International Airport will be capable of handling long-haul flights and eventually make Dominica much more easily accessible with direct connectivity.  People are happy with the arrival of the first direct flight from the USA; a social media user named Eddie Joseph wrote, "This is definitely a step in the right direction. Congratulations and well done.". Another user named Roxann Giselle said that now coming to Dominica would be much more affordable, "Thanks to this new route. I can get a round trip ticket from Toronto to Dominica via Miami for $688 CDN in January 2022. This is awesome. No more express des Ile from St.Lucia to get to Dominica. This is an awesome price. I have not seen these ticket prices in AGES. I am smiling away,"
