Dominica and India share a longstanding friendship. India also provided vaccines to Dominica in February 2021. Over 70,000 doses of Astrazeneca Oxford coronavirus vaccine were delivered by the government of India to Dominica as part of its "Vaccine Maitri Initiative."

Dominica was the first recipient of COVID-19 vaccines in the region. Following the delivery of free vaccines to Dominica, India had also provided vaccines to many other Caribbean countries in the region.

India and Dominica established diplomatic ties in 1981. Since then, both countries have been sharing great bilateral ties. India's Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Dominica's Division of Agriculture signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in education and research in agriculture and allied areas in October 2011.

In February 2016, Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit also came to India for a private visit and attended a convocation at the Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, as the Chief Guest. He had also visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar on February 22, 2016.
