Agatha made landfall in southern Mexico and the Atlantic, with the potential to redevelop as a tropical storm, according to the Miami-based US National Hurricane Center."The deaths of two people in Havana province and a missing person in Pinar del Rio are deeply grieved," the Cuban News Agency reported. With portions of the capital flooded, photos from official media showed rescuers in central Havana evacuating people in boats.
Heavy rains "caused flooding in communities ranging from Pinar del Ro (western extreme) to Sancti Spritus (Center) and the Isla de la Juventud Special Municipality (south of Havana)," according to the weather service. Each year, the Atlantic hurricane season begins on June 1 and runs on November 30 for the North Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean region.
